A--- CBRECCD-- BLOG

Egads! Jim seems to have adopted my cold so we stayed home yesterday and read. We did manage a quick trip to the store for chicken broth to make chicken soup.
Neither of us get bored because we are avid readers. I'm currently reading a Phillip Margolin, Ties That Bind.
Home, in California, is beckoning and I've made reservations on Amtrak. I have a bum shoulder and its looking like surgery is going to be my only option. Not something that can be accomplished from the road.
Drat!
Jim reminded me that I'm here and can complain. Something to think about. Anyway, I know this is a pretty  CRummy blog, but when you have excess letters, you may as well use them. Or, Can Break Ribs Easily Coughing, Coughing Dreadfully.   (Where's the damned Kleenex?)

THE GREEN, GREEN GRASS OF HOME

California is only green for a few short months. Folks riding the steam train talked and sighed appreciatively over the beauty and coolness of the green, green hills surrounding us as we moved along Woods Creek through mining country. All too soon the heat is on and the grass turns brown.
Sometimes we forget how much the animals enjoy and count on the grass and wildflowers for forage. These fat horses engorge than lie down for a rest before getting up and eating more. I imagine the deer are snorting their appreciation as well.

EGYPTIAN/AMERICAN MUMMY MEETS CHINESE AND AMERICAN STUDENTS

Eleven year old Cathy and twelve year old Zoe came to the United States with about 100 Chinese students, to learn English, and in the process, American ways. This sarcophagus, or mummy, as most people refer to it, is a ceramic work of art made by American Artist Jan Stewart. Here Jan explains the significance of this Egyptian/American piece of art. Egyptian/American because the piece is an Egyptian talisman with definite American symbols. Jan inscribed a cross for her religion, her credit card, paint brushes and car keys to take into the hereafter, and Uncle Sam grasping for the heart as it sits on the scale to be weighed. It must weigh less than the feathers or her journey to the hereafter will be troubled and unhappy. Oh, my. Jan's grand daughter Cali is having a great time with her new friends, and I had a great time showing off Jan's talent in this wonderful piece of art that is the centerpiece of my art collection.
Art is life, as they say!

Metallic Riches, Bakugans and Red Ants

What a fool, me, that I would buy a metal detector for this meander!! It clicked, I dug, and voila! Treasures! Look at them. A 1/2 inch rusted bolt, a rusty nail, two aluminum pop top can pieces and a bit of rusty wire, and a broken chunk of unidentifiable metal. Hey, laughter is healing.
And have you ever heard of bakugans? The things we learn from our grandchildren. Owen is posting at http://Quakeworm.wordpress.com. where bakugans live!
It rained here in Jamul and red ants swarm during the day over a pile of rocks. The detector didn't pick them up and I've always considered that anything used as a food source becomes scarce. Hmmmm! I've eaten ants before, they looked pretty tasty. Picked one up, popped it in my mouth, it bit my tongue, tasted like nothing, but hey, good protein shouldn't go to waste. Right? Besides, could have been gross.
Howard Hoyt, whom I've known forever, likes Jumpin' Jack Flash, just another thing we have in common besides 48 years of friendship. Check in to Planet Earth tomorrow.

Introduction to Mary'sRamblin's

Life tosses us opportunities. Mine came from an RV friend, Jim Jaillet who invited me to join him in an adventure, skipping about California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Mexico. HO! says I. Time for a slice of life, mental meanderings, a bit of philosophy, a peek over my shoulder as we ramble our way about to see what we can see. Hope you find enjoyment vicariously in this blog.
